The procedure required for dental inlays and onlays is described as being more like fitting a crown.
Our inlays are specially created in a dental laboratory rather than being applied directly to the affected tooth, which is how they differ from a filling. Therefore, 2-3 appointments may be needed to complete this treatment in full.
To determine if these restorations are suitable for you, the first step is to arrange an initial consultation at our practice. Your dentist will examine your teeth, take X-rays, and talk you through the process, explaining the material options (e.g. gold inlays or porcelain inlays coloured to match and blend naturally with your adjacent teeth) and costs.
During your first dental appointment, we will also need to prepare the tooth in advance of fitting the inlay or onlay by removing decay or parts of the tooth that are damaged. A digital impression will then be taken and used to manufacture your restoration.
While you wait for your inlay to be made, you will be given a temporary filling to protect your tooth.
At your next appointment, your dentist will have your custom-made dental inlays ready to fit and bond to your teeth with dental cement.
The restored tooth is then polished for a smooth and natural feel, ensuring no sharp edges.
