What to expect during your dental fillings appointment

Here at Kai Dental, London, our dental team follows a four-step process:

Removing decay

Before placing a filling, your dentist will numb the area with a local anaesthetic and remove the decayed tissue from the affected tooth.

Tooth preparation

Next, they will shape, clean, and dry the tooth to ensure the filling properly bonds to your remaining tooth structure.

Filling the cavity

They will then restore your tooth using either a composite or amalgam filling.

Made from a combination of metals, silver amalgam fillings are extremely hardwearing, making them ideal for your back teeth. If your filling will be visible when you laugh, smile, or speak, composite fillings are preferable as they can be matched to suit your natural tooth colour.

Finishing touches

Once the filling is in place, your dentist will polish the surface and check the bite to ensure it feels comfortable and natural when you put your teeth together.

If you have chipped, cracked, or broken teeth or would like further information about traditional fillings or tooth-coloured fillings, talk to our team.
