Yes – you can have single-arch treatment if only one arch needs correction, for example, if your bite is fine but one arch has crowding or spacing.

That said, dentists may not move teeth on one arch in isolation; your orthodontist will check how it affects your bite against the other arch.

While fixed braces are highly effective in achieving long-term dental goals, it’s not uncommon for patients to experience some level of discomfort – especially when they are first fitted and the wires are tightened.

You’ll have small metal brackets attached to the front of each tooth. Fitting them doesn’t usually hurt, but you may feel pressure on your teeth when the wire is fixed in place.

Every 6-8 weeks, your braces will be tightened. This can feel like firm pressure or stretching on your teeth, but it indicates that your treatment is working and the brace is gradually moving your teeth where they need to be.

If you experience soreness from the metal wire rubbing against the inside of your lips or mouth, apply a pea-sized amount of orthodontic wax to the wire or bracket.
